Hello everyone, i hope you guys are all doing great. Today i would like to start a new series called "ellyinecoland" where i share with you my favorites eco/philanthropic brands. I admire very much those who can combine fashion and charity.The first brand i would like to introduce you is "Angela & Roi" a newborn brand created by Angela and Roi, they decided to name the brand after themselves because their relationship is the most important thing they have. Their mission is to sell high quality vegan leather bags at an affordable price and donating 5$ on each sale to a specific cause, depending on the color of the bag.
Different medical issues relate to specific colors. For example, Lung Cancer awareness links traditionally with the color white. When customers purchase a white handbag, five dollars will automatically be donated to Lung Cancer Alliance. Angela & Roi works together in total with eleven non-profit organizations.
I was very fascinated by their mission so i decided i had to ask them some questions about their work:
- Why did you decide to start this brand and why?
Angela has always been fascinated by the influence of fashion. Fashion combines the necessity of clothes with art. Women’s fashion allows for expression of individuality, uniqueness, and passion during any season. Handbags are symbolic of this pragmatic beauty. A good handbag goes past a carrier of items and transforms into a confident statement to the world. However, Angela bemoans the inhibiting price of designer handbags. Looking good should not be for only the rich and the famous. She felt that the handbag market should not be slave to a few brand names and should be accessible to a greater population. Roi immediately saw the potential. In 2012, we started testing by merchandising affordable handbags online. Then, we officially launched the business in February, 2013 with the Donate by Color mission.
- How do you chose the charities to donate to and how did you came up with the idea to link them to a color ?
We got inspired when we attended an AIDS fashion show last year. Everyone was wearing Red to support the cause. They also donated any profits from the show to an AIDS charity.
The reason we related fashion and philanthropy is that we often see two extreme sides. While some spend thousands of money consuming luxury goods, some cannot afford to fight diseases. Angela&Roi is not just a company, but it’s a movement. Who doesn’t have a close family or friend who fights one of serious diseases? This is why it’s important at a personal level to everyone.
- Where do you see you brand in the future and what are your main goals ,if you have any?
We would consider Angela&Roi as not just another handbag company, but a 'Donate by Color' movement. As we grow, we will try to apply our mission and philanthropy to other colorful consumer goods. Our ultimate vision is to change consumers' behavior where people can normally buy fashion and do good to the society at the same time. We would like to deliver positive energy, love, and hope to as many people as possible with colors.
